LED Road Flares

Flat tire? Out of fuel? Accident? No one likes to think about being stuck on the side of the road in the RV, but it happens. When it happens to you, anything you can do to improve your visibility to other drivers will enhance your safety. That’s why I carry a set of LED road flares.

These little lights are about the size of a hockey puck and can run about 12 hours on 3 AAA batteries. They are crushproof, waterproof, float on water, and are extremely bright. You can place them on the road surface or hang them from a door handle or ladder with the built-in hook. They also have a magnetic base that will stick to any steel surface. A single button controls a number of blinking
modes (including an SOS pattern), and a flashlight. Best of all, a set of three will stow in a space the size of a coffee cup.

When I purchased mine, I noticed that a rechargeable version was also available. I prefer the reliability and long shelf life of alkaline batteries for safety devices and flashlights. In my experience, rechargeable flashlights always seem to be down on power when I need them the most. Plus, if the three AAA batteries are low on juice, you can easily swap them out and keep using the light or device. Rechargeable lights are useless until they are charged. Not the best answer for something you may need in an emergency situation!

The same light seems to sell under a variety of brand names and can be found at many online stores. I got mine on Amazon, where a set of three was under $30.

They’ll make a great addition to your safety toolbox!
