Kill A Watt EZ

Have you ever had one of those moments where you think, “Now, why didn’t I think of that?” I sure did when I received a note from a member, Robert Boehm #90515, that said, “Check out this easy- to-use consumer power meter. It’s the Kill A Watt® EZ, part #P4460. I purchased it at Home Depot for $30, and it displays voltage, current, watts, kilo-watt hours, frequency, volt amps, power factor and elapsed time.” The real rub is I already Own one, and I never thought about using it in my RV.

I originally bought this product years ago w hen I wanted to figure out how much power all those little wall wart chargers in my house used over time. (It’s more than you’d think, by the way.) It is a great gadget for RVers because it can be used to check your generator output for the proper 60Hz output frequency, something all RVers should test periodically.

Simply plug any AC appliance or device into the Kill A Watt®’s outlet and it will monitor how many amps/watts are being used currently and over time. That’s handy information, especially if you’re trying to stretch your battery bank while boondocking.

Do you want to know how many watt/hours your residential refrigerator uses in 24 hours? The Kill A Watt® can tell you. Besides Home Depot, you can find this gadget online from many sources, including Amazon and Harbor Freight. Prices range from $20 to $30.

Thank you for the tip, Robert. I’ll dig mine out of the back of the junk drawer at home and keep it in my RV gadget box.
